Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Resident Engineer to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection team in Syracuse, NY. You will lead inspection efforts on bridge and highway projects, ensuring compliance with NYSDOT specs and documenting progress with reports, photos, and sketches.

The role requires 5+ years of construction engineering/inspection, NICET certification, and a valid US driver’s license, with outdoors work on project sites.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management required; Bachelor’s preferred.
• 5+ years of construction engineering/inspection experience required.
• NICET Certification (or equivalent) required.
• Prior NYSDOT and/or municipal client experience required.
• Valid US Driver's License required.
• Leadership, decision-making, and attention to detail required.
• Ability and willingness to work outdoors on a project site for extended periods.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English for communications.

Responsibilities

• Lead inspectors or act as solo inspector for construction inspection of bridge/highway projects; measure quantities and document with reports, photos, sketches.
• Oversee and coordinate documentation of construction inspection: pay estimates, change orders, daily reports, quantity checking, minutes, certifications.
• Ensure work is completed in accordance with NYSDOT specifications.
• Apply project plans and company guidelines; make decisive decisions.
• Maintain project documentation and communicate with all project levels.
• Coordinate activities on site and resolve issues on the work.
• Lead other inspectors; provide coaching and direction.

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Resident Engineer to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection team in Syracuse, NY!

Our professional engineers and technicians successfully oversee project construction from pre-construction through finalization with an outstanding track record for cost and schedule containment. Our ACI, SAT, and NICET-certified construction professionals have extensive on-the-job experience in supervision, observation, safety oversight and inspection with ongoing training that ensures required daily schedules are adhered to and all materials are procured and constructed according to plans and specifications. We work with our clients to achieve the optimum value, schedule, and project quality for heavy highway, single and multi-span bridges, intersection and traffic signal improvements, marine improvements, water/wastewater transmission, building and vertical project management, park and recreation construction, and condition assessment and asset inventory.

Responsibilities

• Ability to lead inspectors or act as a solo inspector for the construction inspection of bridge and/or highway projects including measuring and calculating quantities and documenting work with daily work reports, photos, and sketches.
• Oversee and coordinate documentation of construction inspection including pay estimates, change orders, daily work reports, quantity checking, meeting minutes, material certifications, etc.
• Ensure work is completed in accordance with NYSDOT specifications.
• Apply project plans, along with company policies, guidelines, standards, specifications to the work and make decisive decisions.
• Maintain project documentation and communicate with individuals at all levels of the project.
• Coordinate activities on the project site and resolve problems related to the work.
• Lead other construction inspectors; providing coaching, mentoring, and direction as needed.

Compensation: $46.00 to $69.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)
