Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking a Resident Engineer in Chicago, IL. This position focuses on driving project success, performing field testing, and overseeing contract administration. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, a P.E. license, and 8-12 years of supervisory experience. Qualifications

  • 8–12 years of related construction experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • OSHA 10‑hour certification or ability to obtain it.
  • Excellent English language skills, written and verbal.

  • Field Testing, Observation and Reporting: observe field testing and commissioning, prepare inspection reports.
  • Contract Administration and Documentation: oversee construction contract administration, including pay requisitions and change orders.
  • Schedule and Work Plan Management: review plans to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration: provide mentorship and chair site meetings.
  • Client and Stakeholder Coordination: maintain client satisfaction through effective communication.

Job description

Resident Engineer – CKL Engineers, LLC

Location: Chicago, IL

Base pay range: $45.00/hr$55.00/hr

Responsibilities
  • Drive Project Success: ensure contractor deliverables are met, verify quality standards, monitor compliance with approved plans.
  • Field Testing, Observation and Reporting: observe field testing and commissioning, prepare inspection reports, maintain quantity logs, respond to RFIs, prepare punch lists.
  • Contract Administration and Documentation: oversee construction contract administration, including pay requisitions, change orders, and communications from pre‑construction through closeout; review contractor documentation such as shop drawings, specifications, payroll certifications, and labor reports; review and provide recommendations on change orders.
  • Schedule and Work Plan Management: review plans to ensure alignment with project requirements, evaluate contractor schedules (Baseline and updates) in coordination with client expectations, and communicate any issues or challenges as they arise.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration: provide mentorship to invest in staff performance, chair site meetings with contractors, clients and other stakeholders.
  • Client and Stakeholder Coordination: maintain client satisfaction through effective communication, coordinate directly with the client’s representatives, and provide regular status reports.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 8–12 years of related construction experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • OSHA 10‑hour certification or ability to obtain it.
  • Excellent English language skills, written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois Tollway, or other public agencies.
  • Experience working in eBuilder.
