The four cornerstones of Resident Services programming are Education, Economic Mobility, Health & Wellness, and Community Engagement.

About the Role

AHC is excited to launch a new afterschool and community engagement program at Baltimore's Greenspring Overlook (GSO) community. GSO is one of AHC's oldest communities, and we are committed to bringing quality and engaging educational, enrichment, and community activities that will benefit all residents. As the Resident Engagement Specialist in Education, you will lead afterschool programs for K–12 students, host family workshops, and organize community events. You will work collaboratively with the Resident Engagement Specialist in Social Services and build partnerships in the local community. This role will help students and families create pathways to educational and economic success, supporting our long-term goal of transforming GSO into a strong and thriving community.

The full-time, salaried position (40 hours/week) follows an afternoon and evening schedule typically from 11:00 AM–7:00 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee afterschool programs for up to twenty-five K-5th grade and 6th-12th grade students enrolled in each program
  • Coordinate monthly program parent workshops
  • Plan and execute quarterly community-building events for residents
  • Plan and execute field trip events and college tours children
  • Implement high-quality programming with a focus on reading, math, financial and social-emotional literacy and learning
  • Collaborate with the social service RES to connect residents with community resources and support services
  • Design and facilitate differentiated learning goals
  • Use trauma-informed best practices in program management and resident support
  • Build relationships with local schools, libraries, organizations and non-profits to expand services and resources for residents
  • Update and maintain program data for your site
  • Monitor budget needs and track expenses monthly
  • Collect and analyze student and resident data to increase services and support through programs and resources

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the Mission, Vision, and Values of AHC.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related experience.
  • Experience working with both elementary and secondary students.
  • One year of college and career readiness experience.
  • Experience supporting and motivating first generation youth and students who are underrepresented in K-12 and higher education.
  • Cross-cultural competency is a must.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse student population.
  • Good listener, collaborator, problem solver, good sense of humor and team spirit.
  • Experienced in piloting new programs and responding to changing opportunities and challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills in communications, program planning, time management, and data collection and reporting.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and PowerPoint. Database experience preferred.
  • Spanish, Amharic or other relevant second language fluency a plus.
  • Knowledge of resources and working relationships with high schools, colleges & universities, and stakeholders within the DC, Maryland, and Virginia metro area.

Working at AHC

The Resident Services Team may work remotely on Fridays.
