Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with related full-time experience.
  • Combination of education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience in housing, student development, or residence life is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes a community environment in the residence hall to promote development.
  • Supervises a team of Resident Assistants and desks staff.
  • Participates in recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating staff.
  • Implements and facilitates the residential curriculum and learning outcomes.
  • Addresses facilities issues affecting health and safety with facilities team.
  • Enforces Student Code of Conduct and acts as administrative hearing officer.
  • Responds to crises and coordinates with campus resources.
  • Leads student engagement and coordinates housing operations and tours.
  • Advises student organizations and supports leadership development.
  • Serves on-call rotation for safety and welfare of residents.

Job Summary

Resident Director is a live-in member of the University Housingteam and is responsible for all aspects of the housing andresidence life program in their assigned area. Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Establishes and facilitates a community environment within theassigned residence hall to promote and enhance students'educational, social and personal development.
  • Supervises and develops a team of Resident Assistants,depending on the residential area, and Residence Life TeamAssistant.
  • Participates in recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluatingResidents Assistants, Residence Life Team Assistants, DeskAssistants, and full-time staff members.
  • Implements and facilitates the residential curriculum for theirspecific area. Ensures that learning outcomes are met and reportsassessment outcomes back to the department. Designs programs andactivities to promote student development and academicsuccess.
  • Addresses facilities issues that compromise the health andsafety of the residents. Monitors and maintains facility issueswithin the community in collaboration with the Facilitiesteam.
  • Interprets and enforces the Student Code of Conduct and alladministrative policies and procedures. Acts as an administrativehearing officer for cases involving alleged student conduct.
  • Responds to crisis and emergency situations in accordance toestablished procedures. Conducts follow-up and utilizes campus andcommunity resources to address situations.
  • Assists with housing and residence life student engagement,including creating direct connections with students, following upon students of concern and proactively addressing roommateconflicts.
  • Facilitate and lead staff meetings and one-on-one meetings withResident Assistants and other residential student leaders.
  • Coordinate and support operational functions such as front deskoperations, key distribution and collection, damage assessment,reporting and billing, maintenance requests, and building openingand closing. Assists in providing tours of the residentialareas.
  • Advises Area Council and other student organizations.Cultivates, coordinates, and assists in the development of studentleadership and responsibility through programming and directinvolvement with students.
  • Serves on an on-call rotation to ensure the safety and welfareof residential students.
  • Provides good stewardship and fiscal management to all budgetsfor assigned areas or committees.
  • Participates in department and university committees as needed.Represents the department in university wide events and to avariety of different constituents.

Required Qualifications
  • This position requires either five years of directly relatedfull-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degreefrom an accredited institution in an appropriate area ofspecialization and one year of full-time experience directlyrelated to the job functions.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience,and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in anappropriate area of specialization.

  • Knowledge of and ability to manage a student residential areaof approximately 400-600 students.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental aspects of college studentintellectual, emotional, and social development.
  • Knowledge of campus resources used to support the residentialprogram and individual students.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental indicators of student mentalhealth concerns, substance abuse, and domestic violence.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversityof its student body and workforce and actively promotes anequitable environment.
