Job summary

The Bristal at Sayville is seeking a dedicated dining teammate to greet residents, take orders, assist with menus, and ensure a pleasant dining experience. This on-site role emphasizes friendly service and attentiveness within our senior living community.

You will help plate, portion, and serve meals, monitor dietary needs, and collaborate with the kitchen to meet residents' preferences. A welcoming, team-focused atmosphere is essential to success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Greet residents and guests; assist residents to table and help with walkers as needed.
• Distribute/collect menus; take meal orders; monitor dietary needs and suggest menu options.
• Assist in plating and portion controls of appetizers, salads, soups, beverages and desserts for residents and guests.
• Before serving, check meals for appetizing appearance and aroma and ensure they present well.
• Serve meals and beverages to residents, ensuring accuracy and promptness.
• Monitor residents' eating habits and report anything unusual to the Director of Wellness.
• Check back to tables after meals to ensure satisfaction and that residents have everything they need.
• Watch for residents' cues and non-verbal signals to anticipate needs and provide prompt service.
• Respond to special requests and dietary preferences; relay questions about food to the Chef on duty if needed.
• Set and clear tables; maintain cleanliness and organization in the dining area; inspect glassware and silverware.
• Bus tables and transport soiled dishes to wash area; re-set tables completely after each service.
• Ensure condiments and supplies for the next meal are ready and available.
• Provide excellent customer service to residents, families, and guests; foster a friendly environment.
• Develop positive relationships with residents and address them by name.
• Familiarize yourself with the daily menu, including special diets and restrictions.
• Assist residents in making informed choices by describing menu items and offering recommendations.
• Work closely with kitchen staff to communicate orders and dietary requirements.
• Collaborate with team members to maintain smooth service flow and address issues promptly.
• Assist colleagues with duties as needed and volunteer for open shifts when available.
• Follow hygiene and safety protocols; keep dining area clean and organized.
• Adhere to food handling guidelines and proper sanitation of dishes and service areas.
• Follow storage practices, including labeling, QA, and stock rotation.
• Identify and address unpleasant odors in the dining area and address them promptly.
• Clean and sanitize equipment and surfaces in the dining area and related spaces.
• Foster a sense of community by engaging with residents and addressing concerns or requests.
• Promote social interaction during mealtimes and support special events within the community.
• Assist in setting up and decorating dining areas for events to create a festive atmosphere.
• Wear proper and clean company uniform; perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
