Job description

Resident Assistant:

Residents Assistants are a vital part of our wellness team, providing basic personal assistance to residents to help maintain their highest level of functional independence and psychosocial wellness under the supervision of an RN or LPN.

Resident Assistant Requirements:

• Effective communication skills with residents and staff
• Ability to lift, pull, push, and carry 40 pounds and respond quickly to emergencies within the community
• Maintain a safe environment, transport residents and equipment as needed
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum age of 18 years
• Successful completion of background check, drug screen, TB test, and physical

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

• Experience working with seniors
• CNA certification
• Experience in Assisted Living or Memory Care settings

Resident Assistant Responsibilities:

• Provide companionship, build rapport, and establish trust with residents
• Assist with activities of daily living including ambulation, transfers, showering, hygiene, incontinence care, feeding, reminders, and supervision
• Facilitate activities individually or in groups as requested
• Perform daily tasks safely, adhering to safety procedures
• Serve meals and assist with post-meal cleanup
• Keep resident rooms clean and tidy; handle laundry as assigned
• Monitor residents' health, report concerns such as skin issues, behavioral or speech changes, or appearance changes to the Wellness Director
• Follow safety regulations including fire safety, infection control, blood-borne pathogens, and waste management
• Communicate professionally with family members, visitors, and volunteers
• Report changes in residents' psychosocial and physical conditions, including skin issues, to the Wellness Director
• Report complaints, grievances, or abuse incidents to the Wellness or Executive Director
• Respond promptly to emergency calls
• Assist with post-mortem care as instructed
• Complete required documentation and paperwork
• Participate in wellness meetings and mandatory training sessions
• Adhere to American House’s mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures
• Perform all tasks as directed by the Wellness Director and leadership team
