Position Summary
Resident Assistants are an essential part of our wellness team, providing personal assistance to residents and helping them maintain their highest level of functional independence and psychosocial wellness under the supervision of an RN or LPN.
This is a full-time position covering 12-hour night shifts.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, including ambulation, transferring, showering, personal hygiene, incontinence care, feeding, reminders, and supervision according to the individual care plan.
- Gather, engage, and assist residents in activities, conducting group or one-on-one sessions as requested. Encourage socialization and participation in planned activities to foster friendships among residents.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment. Ensure resident rooms are tidy and perform scheduled housekeeping tasks such as laundry. Serve meals in the dining room or apartments.
- Encourage residents to eat a balanced diet, respecting their right to free choice. Document and report any changes in eating habits to the supervisor.
- Observe residents and report any changes in physical or psychosocial condition, including skin issues, behavioral changes, speech, appearance, etc., to the Wellness Director.
- Maintain resident records daily following company policies and procedures.
- Follow safety protocols, including fire safety, infection control, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous waste, and quality assurance. Respond promptly to requests for assistance, including emergency calls and family inquiries.
- Report complaints, grievances, or suspicions of abuse to the Wellness or Executive Director.
- Participate in wellness meetings and required training to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Effective communication with residents and staff.
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions, memos, and short correspondence.
- Ability to make routine decisions based on detailed guidelines with minimal independent judgment.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Experience working with older adults.
- CNA Certification.
- Previous experience in Assisted Living or Memory Care.
- Knowledge of dementia and related diseases.
Education and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Pass pre-employment background check, drug screen, TB test, and physical.
Physical Demands:
- Standing, walking, sitting.
- Use of hands and fingers.
- Reaching with hands and arms.
- Talking or hearing.
- Visual acuity.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
- Interaction with co-workers, residents, and vendors.
- Occasional weekend, evening, or night shifts to ensure coverage.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, chemicals, and biological hazards.
- Potential injury risk from transferring or lifting residents.
- Possible latex exposure.
