DuPage County Health Department - Residential Assistant

The DuPage County Health Department is seeking a dedicated team member for our Glendale Heights Group Home as a Residential Assistant. This full-time position offers work from Sunday to Thursday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

In this role, you will provide vital support to adult clients living with behavioral health disorders, helping them develop skills for independent living within the community. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to make a positive impact while gaining valuable experience in Human Services.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assisting adult clients with serious mental illnesses in learning independent living skills through role modeling and motivational interviewing, including tasks like shopping, meal preparation, and following recipes.
  • Providing education on hygiene, grooming, and housekeeping skills.
  • Monitoring residents' safety and intervening in crises when necessary.
  • Encouraging participation in recreational activities such as sewing, cooking, and art.
  • Monitoring medication effectiveness and observing medication intake.
  • Facilitating transportation and assisting clients in attending appointments.
  • Maintaining environmental standards in residential facilities and vehicles.
  • Keeping records in accordance with health department policies and managing clients' financial accounts.
  • Upholding confidentiality and adhering to privacy laws.
  • Participating in emergency activities as assigned.

Requirements: Must be at least 21 years old. Experience is preferred but not required. Candidates must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License with a good driving record. New employees are required to attend a paid New Hire Orientation at our Central Public Health Center in Wheaton, scheduled during the first shift (8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).
