Job description

Resident Assistant Position Summary

Residents Assistants are a vital part of our wellness team, providing basic personal assistance to residents to help maintain their highest level of functional independence and psychosocial wellness under the supervision of an RN or LPN.

Resident Assistant Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide companionship, build rapport, and establish trusting relationships with residents.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, including ambulation, transferring, showering, personal hygiene, incontinence care, feeding, reminders, and supervision.
  • Support residents in activities, conducting group or one-on-one activities as requested.
  • Perform daily tasks safely, adhering to all safety procedures.
  • Serve meals and assist with post-meal cleanup.
  • Keep resident rooms clean and tidy; handle resident laundry as assigned.
  • Observe residents and report concerns such as skin issues, behavioral changes, or appearance changes to the Wellness Director.
  • Follow safety regulations, including fire safety, infection control, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous waste, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Communicate courteously with family members, visitors, and volunteers.
  • Report changes in residents' psychosocial and physical conditions, including skin breakdown, to the Wellness Director.
  • Report complaints, grievances, and abuse incidents to the Wellness or Executive Director.
  • Respond promptly to emergency calls.
  • Provide post-mortem care as instructed.
  • Complete all required documentation and paperwork.
  • Participate in wellness meetings and mandatory training to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Uphold American House’s mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures within the Wellness Department.
  • Perform tasks as assigned by the Wellness Director and leadership team.
  • Must be able to work every Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Resident Assistant Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Effective communication with residents and staff.
  • Ability to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 40 pounds; move quickly to provide emergency assistance.
  • Maintain a safe environment and transport residents and equipment as needed.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience working with seniors.
  • CNA certification.
  • Previous experience in assisted living or memory care.

Education and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Successful completion of background check, drug screen, TB test, and physical.
