Job description

Ingleside Communities is a not-for-profit community-based facility providing a continuum of senior living services from nursing and rehabilitation to assisted living, to senior apartments to the residents of Mt. Horeb and its surrounding communities. Ingleside is just a short 15-minute drive from the west side of Madison.

Ingleside is currently seeking dedicated Resident Assistants / Caregivers for its CBRF casual status to work every other weekend.

Shifts:

  • AM SHIFT 6:00am - 2:30pm - now hiring for this shift
  • PM SHIFT 2:00pm - 10:30pm - this shift is not available at this time
  • NOC SHIFT 10:00pm - 6:30am - now hiring for this shift

What do Resident Assistants / Caregivers do?

  • Communicate and interact with residents, families, and other health team members as an essential component of this position. Perform a variety of assistive care duties under the direct supervision of the Manager or Shift Leader to ensure the resident's Individual Service Plan (ISP) is being followed.
  • Encourage residents to maintain their independence.
  • Assist and guide residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as necessary.
  • Provide a home-like environment that encourages the optimum level of physical, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual activity.
  • Work independently, using sound judgment in the provision of personal and medical care, activities, and housekeeping/laundry services as scheduled.
  • Maintain a caring attitude towards residents at all times and be capable of good judgment in all situations.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Assist with ADLs, provide direct care to residents, following the resident's assessment and ISP as necessary.
  • Give or assist with personal cares including hygiene, oral care, showers, sponge baths, tub baths, shampoos, and sets, nail and skin care.
  • Assist with toileting as necessary, including care of incontinent residents.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills to successfully interact with residents, families, visitors, co-workers, and community and government agencies.
  • Supervise or assist residents with taking medications and develop a working knowledge of medications and possible side effects. Take vital signs as directed by the Manager or Shift Leader.
  • Report observations to Manager or Shift Leaders and document appropriately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of residents' records including identity, behavior, and medical conditions.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, including performing house cleaning duties.
  • Wash, fold, and put away laundry, distributing to appropriate residents, ensuring residents' names are on all clothing, towels, sets, socks, etc., at all times.
  • Arrange and assist with leisure activities as shown on the activity board and encourage resident participation.
  • Assist with restorative activities, ambulation, range of motion as instructed by the Administrators or Shift Leaders.

Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Compassionate, self-motivated.
  • Must have transportation to and from the facility.
  • Certification in Standard Precautions (obtain before working with residents).
  • Certification in First Aid and Choking (or obtain within 90 days from date of hire).
  • Certification in Fire Safety Training (or obtain within 90 days from date of hire).
  • Medication and Diabetic certification (or obtain within 6 months from date of hire).
  • Previous experience working directly with the elderly preferred but not required.
