Job description

Under the supervision of the Respite Manager, the Resident Assistant performs participant duties and assists in maintaining a positive physical, social, and psychological environment for participants while attending respite programs. Responsibilities include implementing daily activity schedules, documenting activities, following the plan of care consistent with participant preferences/capabilities/needs, transportation, community outings, meal preparation, ADL assistance, and providing 1:1 assistance as needed.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Adheres to the abuse prevention program policies and procedures.
  • Comes to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrates dependability and punctuality.
  • Works cooperatively with participants, participants’ representatives, facility staff, and ancillary service providers.
  • Participates in department education as directed.
  • Demonstrates competency in Microsoft Windows.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Certifications and Licensures
  • DMVCHECK: DMV Record Check
  • CHAUFFEURS: Chauffeurs License
  • ICHAT: iChat (annual, hire date); must be run every 3 years.
Required Education

Experience, Training and Skills
  • Attends meetings/in-services as required; may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to speak, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to relate with all ages and individuals with different cultural and spiritual backgrounds.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, trauma, grief, and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute. Able to move freely around the facility with or without an assisted device and must perform the job functions. Good vision and hearing. Frequently required to sit, stand, and walk for long periods; may need frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious material; must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements. Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance, stay awake, and hold dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, and repetition.

Physical Demand Level

Medium. Occasionally (0‑33% of the workday) lift or carry 21‑50 lbs; frequently (34‑66%) 20 lbs; constantly (67‑100%) 10 lbs.
