Residence Life Custodian Student Employment
Position Purpose

The purpose of the Residence Life Custodian position is to support the cleanliness, safety, appearance, and readiness of campus housing facilities. This position assists with custodial services, residence hall preparation, summer camps and conferences, campus events, and basic housing maintenance support. The role provides students with hands‑on experience in facilities operations and residential services while helping ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, guests, and visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparing residence halls for student occupancy and campus events.
  • Perform routine custodial duties in residence halls, common areas, offices, and public spaces.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, showers, kitchens, laundry facilities, and common areas.
  • Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors and surfaces.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and transport waste to designated collection areas.
  • Restock restroom and cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Assist with residence hall opening, closing, and turnover processes.
  • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as directed.
  • Support summer camps, conferences, and special events through room setup and facility preparation.
  • Report maintenance, safety, and housekeeping concerns to supervisors.
  • Assist with minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, replacing batteries, assembling furniture, and basic repairs under supervision.
  • Maintain storage areas, custodial closets, and cleaning equipment.
  • Follow established safety procedures and properly use cleaning products and equipment.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with Residence Life and Facilities staff.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming living environment for students and guests.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full‑time Hocking College student.
  • Must meet federal requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
  • Ability to perform custodial, housekeeping, and physically active work.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning supplies, equipment, and tools after training.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Demonstrate reliability, initiative, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to identify and report facility maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous custodial or facilities experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with light physical tasks as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to complete all required training and professional development assigned by the supervisor, Human Resources, or the College.
