Job Description and Requirements:

Penn State Berks Housing and Food Services is seeking a full-time Residence Hall Utility Worker (Berks). Responsibilities include:

  • Emptying and cleaning waste containers
  • Removing and disposing of trash and debris
  • Moving linens to lockers or receiving areas
  • Receiving, sorting, storing, and delivering equipment, furnishings, and supplies
  • Cleaning floors, stairs, and carpets
  • Moving furniture for cleaning or repairs
  • Assembling/disassembling furniture
  • Shoveling snow and maintaining outdoor areas
  • Cleaning window wells and keeping drains clear
  • Securing buildings by locking/unlocking doors and turning off lights
  • Maintaining cleanliness of equipment and storage areas
  • Reporting maintenance issues and lost items
  • Substituting for Residence Hall Worker as needed, including lamp relamping with safety precautions

Job Requirements: Basic arithmetic skills, ability to interpret simple reading instruments, and 1-2 months of on-the-job training.

Work Schedule: 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., days off Sunday and Monday.

Penn State offers competitive salary and benefits, including healthcare, tuition discounts, retirement, paid time off, professional development, and wellness programs. The position is part of the Teamsters Local Union No. 8 bargaining unit with a starting hourly wage of $17.25, increasing to $19.27 after six pay periods.
