Job summary

UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services (H&HS) seeks a Custodial Supervisor to manage housekeeping operations for a large residence hall facility supporting up to 2,000 residents and non-residential areas.

The role leads 16–20 full-time custodians and up to 10 seasonal staff, ensuring safety, quality, and efficient staffing while providing training and enforcing university policies. Hours vary with operations.

Qualifications

• 3-4 years custodial experience in a large institution (Required)
• 1-2 years leading or overseeing teams (Preferred)
• Experience in a higher education environment (Preferred)
• Knowledge of University policies, AFSCME procedures and payroll at unit level (Preferred)
• Ability to write concise, grammatical English for schedules and reports (Required)
• Ability to conduct on-site inspections and supervise custodial staff (Required)
• Knowledge of safety rules and chemical handling (Required)
• Budget and inventory awareness for supplies and staffing (Required)
• Strong organizational and time-management skills (Required)
• Effective interpersonal communication with staff and public (Required)
• English and Spanish communication (Preferred)
• Valid California Driver's License (Required)

Responsibilities

• Oversee housekeeping functions for a multi-unit residence hall facility.
• Supervise 16-20 full-time staff and up to 10 seasonal workers.
• Provide on-the-job training for staff on safety and chemical use.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and quality expectations.
• Conduct on-site inspections and address maintenance needs.
• Schedule assignments to meet deadlines amid changing priorities.
• Communicate department policies to staff and residents.
• Manage budgets and monitor supply usage.
• Oversee overtime, weekend shifts, and staffing needs.
