SCSU is seeking a Residence Hall Director to oversee Case/Hill Hall and Stateview Apartments, as well as supervise 7 Resident Advisor Staff. Check out the position description below. The total salary range for this position is $38,797 - $78,458/annually.

The Residence Hall Director (RHD) serves an important leadership role in facilitating student engagement, support and community development within a residential living environment. RHDs help ensure that all students have a safe, respectful and inclusive environment to live and learn. The RHD position is a full-time, live-in role that has primary operations for managing the daily operations of one or more of our residence halls on campus. Responsibilities include: supervising and training of undergraduate staff, implementing the Residential Programming Model, advising Residence Hall Association, and facilitating residence hall student conduct. In addition, RHDs facilitate residential students’ personal, interpersonal and intellectual growth and development.

Position is limited to a five-year appointment period.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively implement the Programming Model within the residence hall, creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment that supports student engagement, academic success, and health and wellbeing.
  • Responsible for daily management of the residence hall community, assessing and identifying both individual and community needs and taking action to meet needs by providing ongoing education, making appropriate referrals and resolving conflict.
  • Train, lead, select and evaluate undergraduate and graduate level student staff. Clearly communicate roles and expectations for meeting identified student engagement outcomes. Assess preparedness of Resident Advisors ( RAs) to administer responsibilities and provide ongoing support and training as needed.
  • Advise Residence Hall Association and administer student leadership development initiatives and efforts. Build effective advising and mentoring relationships with students in the community. Be active and visible in support of student initiatives in the residence halls as well as within the Department of Residential Life and the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Participate in the on-call duty schedule for the Residential Life Department, facilitating appropriate emergency response, addressing student crisis situations and serve as a student conduct hearing officer for low level policy violations/situations.
  • Demonstrate administrative and fiscal responsibility for allocated resources and budgets.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Department of Residential Life leadership team, the Dean of Students or the Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Affairs to meet department, division and university needs.
  • Lead worker to: Residential Advisors (approximately 7-13 RAs per building). RHDs may also direct the work of graduate level staff within the Department of Residential Life.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in a higher education setting, or other directly related experience
  • Must have experience working with diverse groups and individuals
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply student development theory
  • Ability to demonstrate discreet judgment and confidentiality
  • Leadership development skills and ability to practice and teach shared leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work within a team and motivate others
  • Computer proficiency in word processing, database management and utilization of social media platforms
  • Must be able to live on-campus

Preferred Qualification

  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related field
  • Prior residence life live-in experience

Other Requirements

Ability to lift and move boxes and supplies up to 25 pounds.
