Job summary

Allegan County is seeking dedicated individuals to serve as reserve deputies under the Sheriff’s Office, performing limited patrol, traffic control and related law enforcement duties. The role operates across varied shifts and venues, supporting public safety and community welfare within Allegan County.

Starting wage is $17.83 per hour, with no benefits and a variable schedule up to 19.5 hours per week. The next reserve deputy academy is scheduled to begin in February 2027.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Possess a valid Michigan driver's license and have a good driving record.
• Applicant shall have no felony criminal convictions and pass a background investigation.
• Must undergo structured training / academy and be firearm qualified as per policy & MCOLES.

Responsibilities

• Performs security patrols and traffic control on various shifts.
• Rides with deputies to assist in patrolling county and city streets and public events.
• Prepares daily logs, reports and records (tow sheets, theft reports, etc.).
• Maintains contact with supervisors and coordinates activities.
• Assist with transports of adults, juveniles or animals.
• Assist with crime scene security, crowd control and emergency response.
• County Park ordinance enforcement and park patrols.
• Assists in searches for missing persons.
