Job summary

The Veterinary Technician role at RFCUNY’s Comparative Medicine Unit (CMU) within the Advanced Science Research Center focuses on hands-on animal care, health monitoring, and research support in a vivarium setting.

You will work under veterinary oversight, maintain rigorous records, and assist with procedures, training researchers, and ensuring regulatory compliance for animal studies.

Qualifications

• Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT)
• Knowledge of laboratory animal science and animal care practices
• Familiarity with regulations governing animal research (IACUC, OLAW, USDA)

Responsibilities

• Monitor health and well-being of animals in the vivarium and report abnormalities.
• Perform routine health checks, administer medications, assist with veterinary procedures.
• Assist with euthanasia procedures per approved protocols.
• Support sentinel and environmental monitoring programs.
• Administer injections, collect biological samples, assist with data collection.
• Maintain records of animal health, treatments, and colony management.
