Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Research Technologist – Animal Sciences to support designing and conducting experiments involving animals across conventional and specialized housing. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Learn and manage lab orders and purchases.
  • Handle mouse husbandry including breeding and genotyping.
  • Conduct drug treatments including injections.
  • Perform mouse brain tissue sectioning (frozen and paraffin).
  • Acquire images with fluorescence microscopy.
  • Conduct neurological behavioral tests in mice after stroke or brain trauma.

Job description

Position Overview

Research Technologist - Animal Sciences performs specialized tasks associated with developing, designing, and conducting research projects and experiments under the general direction of faculty and post‑docs. Tasks involve working with animals confined in conventional, barrier, quarantine, and specialized biohazard housing; may require handling of acute, chronic, and infectious diseases, quarantine procedures, and radioisotopes.

Approval of remote and hybrid work is not guaranteed regardless of work location.

Responsibilities
  • Learn and manage lab orders and purchases, including supplies, reagents, animals, and documentation.
  • Learn and handle mouse husbandry, including breeding, PCR genotyping, and documentation.
  • Learn and perform drug treatments, including tail vein injection, oral and nasal drug administration.
  • Learn and conduct mouse brain tissue sectioning (frozen and paraffin).
  • Learn and acquire images using fluorescence microscopy.
  • Learn and conduct neurological behavioral tests in mice following stroke and brain trauma.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree. No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education.
