Job summary

Qualifications

Position Summary

Performs advanced and largely independent research in a fast-paced laboratory investigating immune responses to Staphylococcus aureus using mouse models and human specimens. Responsibilities include designing, coordinating, and executing complex research protocols; managing and maintaining a large mouse colony; independently performing and supporting animal surgeries and experimental procedures; analyzing and interpreting research data; ensuring compliance with regulatory, safety, and animal care requirements; overseeing laboratory operations, purchasing, and inventory management; coordinating the collection and processing of human tissue samples with clinical partners; and providing technical expertise, training, and guidance to laboratory personnel, students, and trainees in support of the laboratory’s research objectives.

• Knowledge of basic biological and chemical science principles related to laboratory research.
• Ability to perform laboratory procedures and techniques according to established protocols and instructions.
• Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment, safety practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Ability to maintain accurate research data, laboratory records, and inventory documentation.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with laboratory personnel, research participants, and collaborating departments.
• Ability to organize and prioritize assigned tasks while working both independently and as part of a research team.
• Ability to follow detailed protocols and adapt to changing research priorities under the direction of the Principal Investigator or senior laboratory personnel.
• Basic computer skills, including the use of laboratory databases, data entry systems, and common office software applications.

Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related scientific field

Preferred Experience

Three or more years in a laboratory research setting and animal husbandry, particularly in immunology research with knowledge of infectious and/or neuroscience.
