Job summary

Michigan State University’s W.K. Kellogg Biological Station LTAR program seeks a research technician to perform lab analyses on plant, soil, water, and gas samples, and to assist with field sampling and equipment maintenance.

The role supports a year-round research program and includes safety responsibilities and data handling. The technician will prepare reagents, maintain instruments, and document chemical safety records while coordinating with faculty, staff, and trainees.

Qualifications

  • BS or BA in environmental science, plant and soil sciences, environmental chemistry, or related field.
  • Experience as a technician in a research laboratory and ability to perform laboratory analyses.
  • Experience with gas chromatography, flow spectrophotometry, and other analyses is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Daily coordination with supervisor on project goals, analysis timetable and productivity.
  • Interact with staff to discuss procedures and assist field and laboratory operations.
  • Interact with graduate students and faculty to discuss protocol, results and productivity.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous waste in compliance with MSU EHS regulations.
  • Maintain the integrity of all samples, analyses and data.
  • Maintain daily log of field and lab activities.
