The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology (Ob/Gyn) has an outstanding opportunity for two highly motivated and skilled Research Technologists (NE S SEIU 925 RT) to join our dynamic research team. We are embarking on a journey to unravel and reconstruct mammalian germ cell and embryonic development using pluripotent stem cells, through the cutting-edge power of high-throughput genomics. As a Research Technician, you will be an essential and valued member of our dynamic team, contributing to groundbreaking research in this exciting field. You will be responsible for various laboratory tasks, including stem cell culture, imaging of samples, lab management assistance, and plasmid library construction. Your contributions will be instrumental in advancing scientific research.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Stem Cell Culture

1. Maintain and expand various types of stem cell cultures, adhering to strict protocols and quality control measures.
2. Monitor cell health and viability to ensure optimal growth conditions.
3. Prepare and maintain accurate records of cell culture activities.

Imaging of Samples

1. Utilize microscopy and other imaging techniques to visualize and analyze cellular samples.
2. Assist in capturing and documenting high-quality images and data for analysis.
3. Collaborate with researchers to interpret imaging results and draw meaningful conclusions.

Lab Management Assistance

1. Assist in the organization and management of the laboratory space and equipment.
2. Contribute to inventory control, ordering, and purchasing of lab supplies and reagents.
3. Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized working environment.

Plasmid Library Construction

1. Participate in the construction of plasmid libraries using molecular biology techniques.
2. Prepare and purify plasmid DNA for downstream applications.
3. Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and optimize plasmid construction processes.

General Laboratory Support

1. Perform routine laboratory tasks, such as preparing reagents and solutions.
2. Assist in data analysis and contribute to the preparation of research reports and presentations.
3. Keep up-to-date with relevant scientific literature and methodologies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Two years’ experience as a Laboratory Technician II, or equivalent; OR a Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field of science or technology. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Previous experience in stem cell culture and/or molecular biology techniques.
2. Proficiency in microscopy and imaging techniques.
3. Familiarity with lab management tasks, such as inventory control and purchasing.
4. Basic knowledge of plasmid construction methods.
5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively within a team.
7. Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.
