The role performs diagnostic genetic testing, maintains equipment, and prepares reagents while training staff and ensuring precise documentation and data integrity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in an academic or laboratory setting preferred.
  • Experience with DNA extraction, Sanger sequencing and/or NGS highly desired.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic genetic testing and related genomic assays in a CLIA‑certified lab.
  • Carry out DNA/RNA extraction, sequencing, library prep, RT‑qPCR and related techniques.
  • Prepare and maintain reagents, controls, and documentation; monitor inventory and quality control.
  • Train and onboard staff or fellows and assist in SOPs and process improvements.
  • Document results and communicate findings to team and stakeholders.

Our goal is to ensure seamless integration of genomic technologies into research projects by offering a wide range of genomic technologies, including Sanger and NGS sequencing, genotyping and gene expression profiling all in a CLIA-certified environment.The Research Technologist will be under general supervision of the associate director, and performs diagnostic genetic testing, equipment maintenance, solution and reagent preparation, monitors inventory in addition to other tasks in a highly complex clinical diagnostic laboratory.Carries out a broad range of technically advanced research activities and procedures; and maintains meticulous records for diagnostic lab; typically supervises technical and sometimes administrative elements of the diagnostic lab and core facility. Helps onboard new staff and train them in the lab.Does this position require Patient Care? NoEssential FunctionsFollowing laboratory SOPs and with close attention to detail, carries out a wide range of moderate to complex genomics techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, next-generation sequencing, NGS library preparation/target enrichment, RT-qPCR, and Sanger sequencing for diagnostic-based genetic analysesPerforms procedures in a timely manner with high degree of accuracy and precision and with an understanding of theory behind tests and procedures.May operate and maintain moderate to complex lab equipment such as spectrophotometers, sequencers, thermal cyclers, ultra-centrifuges and other scientific equipment related to diagnostic testing.Follow quality control policies and procedures.
