Research Technologist

• Pay Rate: $40 - $46/hour (on W2)
• Contract Length: 12 months
• Location: Baytown, TX 77520 (Onsite)

Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Overview

We are seeking a Research Technologist I to support catalyst research and laboratory operations in a fast-paced lab and pilot plant environment in Baytown, TX. This role will perform hands‑on laboratory work involving pyrophoric and air‑sensitive materials, glove box operations, and catalyst preparation and support.

The Research Technologist will work closely with a PhD-level work director and pilot plant engineers to coordinate project priorities, catalyst requirements, and delivery timelines. The position also involves supporting nearby pilot plant operations and safely moving materials between laboratories and pilot plant areas within the facility.

The ideal candidate has a background in synthetic, organic, organometallic, or inorganic chemistry, or chemical engineering, with demonstrated hands‑on laboratory experience beyond academic coursework.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands‑on laboratory work supporting catalyst research and operations.
• Safely handle pyrophoric and air‑sensitive materials on a routine basis in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Perform laboratory work using glove boxes and air‑free environments.
• Support catalyst preparation and other laboratory activities based on project requirements.
• Coordinate daily with the work director regarding laboratory priorities, project needs, and timelines.
• Collaborate closely with pilot plant engineers to understand catalyst requirements and coordinate timely delivery and support.
• Safely transport materials between laboratories and nearby pilot plant areas within the Baytown facility.
• Follow established laboratory, environmental, and safety procedures when handling chemicals and laboratory equipment.
• Maintain accurate experimental and laboratory records using electronic lab notebooks and other documentation systems.
• Manage multiple laboratory activities and priorities in a fast‑paced research environment.
• Utilize Microsoft Office and laboratory software as needed to document and communicate work.
• Progress toward independently managing laboratory and pilot plant support responsibilities following completion of training.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
• 1 to 3 years of hands‑on laboratory experience. Relevant internship or independent research experience may qualify.
• Demonstrated laboratory experience outside of standard classroom or coursework‑based labs.
• Hands‑on experience handling pyrophoric materials.
• Hands‑on experience working with glove boxes and/or air‑free environments.
• Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices, particularly when working with air‑sensitive or reactive materials.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast‑paced laboratory environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with scientists, engineers, and other technical personnel.
• Ability to work independently after completing the required training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in synthetic, organic, organometallic, or inorganic chemistry or chemical engineering.
• Experience working with air‑sensitive chemistry and catalyst‑related laboratory processes.
• Experience with high‑pressure reactors.
• Experience with NMR analysis.
• Familiarity with MestReNova (Mnova) and/or TopSpin NMR software.
• Experience using electronic laboratory notebooks.

Additional Information

• High‑pressure reactor and specific NMR software experience are not required and can be trained.
• Oil & gas industry experience is not required.
• Candidates whose laboratory experience is primarily theoretical, physical chemistry, or classroom‑based may not align closely with the hands‑on requirements of this position.
• Candidates should be comfortable working routinely with reactive materials and following strict laboratory safety procedures.
