HHMI seeks a Research Technician to join the lab of Dr. Jennifer Zallen at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

The role supports multidisciplinary biomedical research on how cells move and form tissues, with mentorship and opportunities for hands-on techniques in genetics, imaging, and cell biology. You will engage in cutting-edge work to understand development, birth defects, and cancer, with the aim of contributing to publications and professional growth in a collaborative

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related field.
  • Self-motivated, interactive, and meticulous with ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new approaches and teaching others.
  • At least one year of undergraduate research experience.

Responsibilities

  • Use molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology techniques to study protein localization and function.
  • Learn and apply microscopy methods to analyze cell dynamics in embryos using confocal imaging.
  • Assist with design and engineering of fly and mouse lines using CRISPR/Cas9.
  • Maintain collections of fly and mouse lines.
  • Collaborate with senior scientists and students in an interactive environment.

We are actively seeking a Research Technician to join the lab of Dr. Jennifer Zallen at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, NY. This individual will work as part of an interactive, multidisciplinary team of scientists working to understand how cells navigate through the body during development and how defects in these processes can lead to birth defects and cancer. We use cell biological, genetic, biophysical, computational, and live-imaging approaches to visualize cell and protein dynamics in living embryos. The long-term goal of this research is to leverage this information to build, repair, and regenerate tissues to treat human disease. About the Research Technician role:

We are seeking an interactive, creative, and highly motivated researcher to assist in biomedical research investigating how cells move, change shape, and communicate with each other to generate functional tissues and organs. You will have an opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and you will receive ample guidance and mentorship to ensure your success in this role. We are looking for researchers who are able to commit to joining the lab for at least two years.

What you’ll do:

  • Use molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology techniques to study protein localization, dynamics, and function
  • Learn innovative microscopy methods to analyze cell dynamics in fly and mouse embryos using confocal microscopy and time-lapse imaging
  • Assist with the design and engineering of fly and mouse lines using CRISPR/Cas9 methods
  • Assist with the maintenance of collections of fly and mouse lines
  • Collaborate with senior scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students in an intellectually stimulating and interactive environment

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related field
  • Self-motivated, interactive, and meticulous approach to tasks and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, documentation, and communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for learning new approaches and a passion for teaching and helping others
  • A minimum of one year of undergraduate research experience is required.
