Job summary

The Center for Diabetes Technology at the University of Virginia is searching for a Research Technician. Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of lab experience preferred; a Bachelor's degree can substitute for this.
  • Must be detail-oriented and reliable.
  • Familiarity with CPR, CITI, and Bloodborne pathogen training is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and troubleshoot system and devices during clinical trials.
  • Perform data maintenance including compiling and storing data.
  • Handle and process lab specimens.

Job description

The Center for Diabetes Technology at the University of Virginia is seeking a Research Technician to assist with trials centering around diabetes. Shifts will be variable in time and location and may include weekend, evening, or daytime hours. Most shifts will involve patient contact. Incumbent must be able to follow HIPAA guidelines regarding patient health information and be reliable and detail oriented.

The preferred candidate should have experience with Windows and the ability to learn and troubleshoot new technology. An understanding of Android cell phones and Bluetooth technology is beneficial.

Prefer candidates who have prior experience working in a laboratory and have CPR, CITI, and Bloodborne pathogen training.

Other duties may include but not limited to:

  • Monitoring and troubleshooting a computer system, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Android phone during a clinical trial.
  • Data maintenance, which may involve compiling, coding, categorizing, and storing data in an electronic format.
  • Handling and processing lab specimens.
  • Organizing, setting up, and cleaning study devices


Compensation range $15-18/ per hour depending on incumbent experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience.Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.

Licensure: None

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
