Job summary

Tulane National Biomedical Research Center seeks a Medical Research Technician for the Molecular Virology Sequencing Core, Serology Unit. You will perform diagnostic assays in BSL-2 facilities according to SOPs, maintain equipment, and support team efforts in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a BS degree and 0–2 years of lab experience, with preferred experience in serology or molecular assays and familiarity with common lab software such as Excel and Word.

Qualifications

Job description

The employee will work as a Medical Research Technician in the Molecular Virology Sequencing Core, Serology Unit, at the Tulane National Biomedical Research Center. The employee will be responsible for performing diagnostic assays, in Biosafety level 2 laboratories (BSL2), in adherence with the Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) in place. The candidate should be able to work independently under minimal supervision. The candidate will also be responsible for equipment and general laboratory maintenance.

Responsibilities

Ability to perform meticulous laboratory work with careful attention to detail, and in strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures.

Familiarity with basic laboratory work.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (BS)

0-2 years of laboratory experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years of work experience in serological and/or molecular assays.

Understanding and experience with specialized laboratory equipment, e.g., Bio-Plex, microplate reader, real time PCR systems.

Familiarity with basic computational tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.

Ability to work well with team members and willingness to learn and take direction.

Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

SPECIAL REQUIRED ABILITY FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:

Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University’s Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUG SCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:

Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.
