JOB SUMMARY

Under minimal supervision, provides technical assistance in performing assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to a specific scientific field.

Works under the supervision of Dr. Paula Hernandez in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Conducts basic science research, sets up and operates lab equipment, prepares materials, performs experiments, records data, and analyzes results. Contributes to project development and requirements, determines objectives, and manages tasks. Prepares reports and presentations of results. Ensures the operational condition of scientific equipment through maintenance. Performs other lab duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in the relevant field and no experience required
  • Two years of college with emphasis in the relevant field and no experience required
  • High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE
  • No experience required with a Bachelor's Degree
  • Two years of laboratory experience at the level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two years of college
  • Four years of laboratory experience, including two at the level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent, with a High School diploma or GED
JOB DUTIES
  • Performs routine scientific and medical research in fields such as biology, chemistry, physics, or related areas
  • Assembles and operates laboratory equipment and apparatus
  • Records research data following prescribed procedures and discusses results with supervisor
  • Assists in data collection for reports
  • Reads literature and consults with supervisor on new procedures
  • May supervise lower-grade laboratory personnel on limited research tasks
  • Performs other duties as assigned
