Job Summary

The Wheeler Laboratory in the Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) studies human diseases caused by expanded microsatellite repeats, focusing on Huntington's disease (HD). We seek a highly motivated candidate to support ongoing projects using skills in molecular biology, work with mice, histology, and mammalian cell culture. The ideal candidate is driven, thrives in a fast-paced, team-based environment, possesses strong interpersonal, organizational, and computational skills. Experience in molecular biology and/or with mice is a plus.

Qualifications

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares solutions and performs basic procedures (pipetting, cell and tissue culture, etc.)
  2. Maintains laboratory notebook
  3. Understands and applies basic scientific techniques
  4. Conducts analysis of results and begins interpretation
  5. Sets up and prepares routine experiments
  6. Prepares reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipment
  7. Performs literature searches
  8. Assists with organizing materials for publication or presentation
  9. Maintains and orders supplies
  10. Executes protocols of non-routine experiments
  11. Assists with selecting methodologies
  12. Designs and modifies protocols
  13. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data
  14. Prepares and presents reports
  15. Organizes and summarizes data using scientific and statistical techniques
  16. Drafts materials for publications and presentations
  17. Participates in experiment or field work design

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:

  • Ability to work independently and in teams

Education: Bachelor's degree required.


Experience: Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience for Research Technician II.


Supervisory Responsibility: A Research Technician II may lead lab assistants and Research Technician I's.
