Job Summary

The Morini and Alves Laboratories at the Center for Genomic Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), are seeking a highly motivated Research Technician to support ongoing translational research focused on developing gene editing and pharmacological therapies for Familial Dysautonomia (FD), a rare neurodegenerative disorder.

The successful candidate will play a key role in testing novel gene editing approaches and small-molecule compounds in a mouse model of FD. This includes conducting efficacy studies, genotyping, tissue processing, behavioral assays, and molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, Western blotting, and RNA analysis.

We are looking for a results-driven, team-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently at the bench. A background or strong interest in neuroscience, human genetics, and/or therapeutic development is highly desirable. Prior experience with mouse handling and colony management is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

This position does not require patient care.

Essential Functions

  1. Executes protocols of non-routine experiments.
  2. Assists PI with determining the most suitable methodology.
  3. Performs basic design and modification of protocols.
  4. Executes and supports in vivo efficacy studies using a mouse model of FD.
  5. Assists in mouse colony management (breeding, genotyping, health monitoring).
  6. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data.
  7. Prepares and presents reports.
  8. Organizes and summarizes acquired data using scientific and statistical techniques.
  9. Participates in the design of experiments or fieldwork.

Licenses and Credentials Experience

Previous research lab experience 1-2 years required.
