A Brief Overview
This entry-level research technical role participates in a planned research projects by performing research protocols, experimental procedures and other laboratory tasks under direct supervision. May occasionally exercise minimal discretion and judgment in execution and interpretation of experiments, and of data derived.
Recent graduates and those looking to gain experience before applying to medical or graduate school are encouraged to apply. While some laboratory experience is preferred, qualified candidates with a Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, or related studies or have graduated on a pre-medical track will be considered as well.
This Research Technician position is with the Center for Fetal Research in the Flake laboratory at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The Flake lab is currently working on an extrauterine system that supports extremely premature neonates. This novel technology offers the possibility of improving outcomes in a patient population with a high rate of mortality and morbidity.
The successful candidate will support ongoing research in the lab by functioning as an independent practitioner providing intensive and critical care in an animal NICU. This does not require prior experience and the candidate will be extensively trained in all relevant job functions. The Research Technician will also be responsible for other tasks including lab inventory, aseptic scrub and surgical training, supply ordering, etc. This laboratory is a highly collaborative and supportive training environment in which successful candidates will be given the opportunity to directly contribute to projects, potentially resulting in authorship on scientific manuscripts.
