Research Technician II - Alzheimer's Diseases

The Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Research Technician II to join Dr. Ismael Al-Ramahi's laboratory, focusing on therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases. This is an onsite position located in Houston, TX, with a salary range of $35,591 - $41,872, working Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Summary

The technician will gain experience in biochemical, molecular biology, and genetic techniques, including behavioral testing, immune detection, and genomic sequencing, contributing to research on Alzheimer's and neurodegenerative diseases.

Job Duties
  • Genotyping mice and Drosophila using PCR
  • Performing Western blot experiments
  • Conducting Fourier Resonance Energy Transfer experiments
  • Performing immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy
  • Preparing samples for immunohistochemistry
  • Analyzing data with ImageJ, Photoshop, R-Studio, and Excel
  • Documenting results and presenting findings in lab meetings
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Basic Science or a related field; four years of related experience can substitute for degree
  • No prior experience required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recent graduates seeking research experience before graduate or medical school
  • Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions
  • Proficiency in image processing software and presentation tools
  • Knowledge of statistics and programming in R or similar is a plus
