Job Description - Research Technician II (26005198)
Research Technician II

This position is for the Division of Genetic and Genomic Medicine within the Department of Pediatrics. The successful Research Technician II will be conducting preclinical trials experiments to validatethe efficacy of therapeutic agents in treating metabolic disorders using mouse disease models. The incumbent will be responsible for performing a variety of animal and laboratory experiments and procedures, preparing specimens from animal sources, overseeing supply management, and operating and properly maintaining equipment. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. This position is located at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Essential Functions

The position is primarily for someone to conduct experiments with mice and is expected to manage mouse colonies, assemble cohorts and treat mice with therapeutic agents.

  • Collect tissue from mice and prepare samples for analysis.
  • Isolate cells for cell culture, if needed.
  • Performs a variety of laboratory experiments, molecular techniques, and related technical functions, testing, troubleshooting, and analysis. Identifies and prepares specimens.
  • Oversees supply management: ordering, procurement, tracking estimates, and receiving items.
  • Operates and maintains applicable laboratory equipment for job functions.
  • Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books. Organizes and documents results.
