JOB SUMMARY
Works under general supervision to provide routine technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to particular field of science.

The Varadarajan Lab is interested in how neural circuits are formed in health and disease. We are focused on axon regeneration in the central nervous system and use the mouse visual system as our model. We use a wide variety of molecular, genetic, viral, behavioral and microscopy approaches to investigate mechanisms that can promote visual repair. We are looking for a Research Assistant to supervise and manage the daily and long-range operations of our laboratory.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Completion of two (2) years of college or specialized training in histology, medical technology or relevant field or High School graduation including courses in basic sciences such as physics, chemistry, biology, etc.
  • Experience: 1 year of experience as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with Completion of two (2) years of college or 3 years of laboratory experience including two years as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School graduation.

JOB DUTIES

  • Assists in conducting experiments and working on research problems in such fields as physiology, bacteriology, tissue culture, chemistry, and other related fields by performing basic, routine, and least complex procedures as prescribed by supervisor.
  • Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Records resulting data in accordance with established methods. Confers with supervisor concerning results obtained, and modifies procedures in accordance with instruction of supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
