Job summary

The Stout Lab in the Aging & Metabolism Research Program at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Oklahoma City is seeking a Research Technician to conduct cellular and molecular aging research using rodent models. You will manage mouse colonies, genotyping by PCR, euthanize animals, dissect tissues, and assist postdoctoral scientists.

Typical hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, with flexibility based on laboratory needs.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in one of the biological sciences, physics, chemistry, or related area, or equivalent lab experience.
  • Willingness to handle laboratory animals (mice and rats).
  • Strong ability to coordinate day-to-day work and follow protocols.
  • Must be organized, record meticulous results, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Euthanize animals and dissect tissues as needed.
  • Maintain laboratory inventories and order supplies.

Position Overview and Responsibilities

The Stout Lab in the Aging & Metabolism Research Program is seeking a Research Technician to conduct research in cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating the aging process using rodent models.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing mouse colony (updating database, setting up breeders, & genotyping by PCR).
  • Euthanizing animals and dissecting tissues.
  • Maintaining laboratory inventories.
  • Ordering laboratory supplies.
  • Maintaining monthly expenditure documentation.
  • Assisting postdoctoral scientists and graduate students with experiments.
  • Participating in lab and departmental meetings.
Minimum Requirements
  • BS/BA degree in one of the biological sciences, physics, chemistry, or related area, or equivalent years of relevant lab experience.
  • Willingness to handle laboratory animals (mice and rats)
  • Strong ability to coordinate day-to-day work, and follow protocols to complete a variety of detailed tasks and assignments.
  • Must be organized, take direction, keep meticulous records, and meet all deadlines.
  • Ability to record detailed procedures and results. Detail-orientation is crucial.
  • Basic computer skills including Internet software, order processing systems, and Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Professionalism and acceptance of diverse personalities and cultures are required, as well as willingness to work collaboratively with others, and independently in areas of proficiency.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and initiative to solve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with handling laboratory animals (mice and/or rats).
Work Hours

Typically Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM, although hours are frequently flexed based upon laboratory needs.
