Job Description

Under the general supervision of Research Scientists, the Research Technician I provides technical support for research activities in the greenhouse. Responsibilities include routine tasks related to greenhouse operation, plant care, experimental setup, data collection, and maintenance of research environments. Attention to detail, safety protocol adherence, and assisting with scientific studies are essential.

This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment depends on funding renewal. Salary may vary based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

1. Facilitate or handle the living germplasm collection, seedbank, and experimental field trials.
2. Collect samples and measurement data; maintain data collection and summarization of field trials.
3. Compile data, perform quantitative analysis, and extend projections.
4. Assemble and operate technical equipment.
5. Assist senior staff in conducting field experiments and developing procedures.
6. Support undergraduate and graduate research students and student workers.
7. Participate in college-wide events.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent, with related experience.
• Two years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively.

Other Requirements

• Ability to lift moderately heavy objects and exert heavy force.
• Availability to work beyond normal hours and on weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Biology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of plant taxonomy, propagation, and horticultural research methods.
• Ability to operate horticultural equipment.
• Willingness to obtain a Texas pesticide applicator license if required.
