Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Research Technician I to support the operations team in Muskegon, MI. You will perform basic research tasks, maintain facilities and equipment, and help ensure studies are completed safely and accurately.

You will handle animals, record data in LIMS following GLP, assist with sample collection, drug administration, and oversee basic anesthesia monitoring. The role requires a high school diploma and at least 1 year of related experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Minimum 1 year experience required.
• ALAT certification preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office core applications and the ability to learn additional applications.

Responsibilities

• Introduction to data review for GLP compliance.
• Sample collection including blood draws and urine collection.

• Basic anesthesia monitoring including intubation/extubation and warming systems.
• May serve as secondary Point Technician on a study.
• May assist with animal husbandry: cleaning, feeding, watering and enrichment.
• Perform other training or duties as assigned.

Role Summary

The Research Technician I will engage in basic research functions, and facility and equipment maintenance while supporting the larger operations team in completing studies in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner.

Role Responsibilities

• Assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of animal species.
• Perform animal observations to monitor and assess animal health and monitor the study.
• Collect and record data on paper and/or in an electronic laboratory information management system (LIMS) in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
• Introduction to data review for GLP compliance.
• Sample collection including, but not limited to, non-sterile scrub of collection sites, blood draws, and urine collections.
• Drug administration including, but not limited to, eye drops, tablets, subcutaneous injections, intramuscular injections, and drug calculations.
• Basic anesthesia monitoring including intubation/extubation and use of animal warming systems.
• May serve as a secondary Point Technician on a study.
• May assist with animal husbandry, including but not limited to cleaning, feeding, watering and enrichment as needed.
• Perform other training or duties as assigned.

Special Requirements

• This role works predominately in a laboratory setting. There will be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be handling of and/or exposure to animal tissues and zoonotic organisms.
• Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including N95 respirators.
• Physical activity includes lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying (up to 40lbs for up to 50 feet), pushing/pulling (up to 75lbs force), reaching, gripping/pinching, standing, and ascending a ladder without restriction.
• Ability to work beyond typical work schedule including, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts with short notice.
