Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of a Project Manager, the GIS Technician is responsible for a variety of duties related to the Center's National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Project and other projects as needed. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of hydrography concepts is required. These duties may include but are not limited to engaging in data editing and data development, performing QA/QC tasks, creating maps, performing spatial analysis, documentation development, tracking and overseeing task-specific progress, and training and supervising interns. The GIS Technician will also perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Work Experience. On-the-job experience required (1+ years of related paid work experience)

In-depth knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop and MS Office Products (i.e. Excel, Word, Access, Powerpoint, etc.)

Comprehensive understanding of fundamental concepts related to GIS (map projections, data processing, data and file management, spatial analysis, topology, linear referencing, etc.)

Experience and knowledge of hydrography-related concepts and datasets

Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrable skills in spatial data creation and editing

Knowledge of Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures

Ability to communicate questions and instructions clearly, both verbally and in writing

Ability to research various subjects and communicate findings

Attention to detail and a deep understanding of methods to ensure data and project integrity

Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and tasks

This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8 am- 5 pm

Full Pay range: $19.26- $34.86

The anticipated hiring range: $26-$30

Time Base: Full-Time
