Job summary

The Dong Lab at University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking a Research Technician to conduct research on human bacterial pathogens under the supervision of the PI. You will contribute to data generation for publications and grant submissions, and work closely with experienced staff.

Responsibilities include managing lab inventory, maintaining an up-to-date Laboratory Notebook, and participating in regular lab meetings to interpret results and discuss experimental design.

Qualifications

• Work Experience: 4 years experience in research with bacteria.
• Education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
• Bachelor’s degree Microbiology or related field (preferred).
• Experience performing PCR, aseptic technique, dilution plating, and other microbiological methods.

Job Duties Outlined Research Overview: Under the direct supervision of PI and other research staff, it conducts routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures, and record results. Manage lab inventory, including ordering and restocking of supplies, reagents, and media, as well as other laboratory records. Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information. Perform collaborative studies with other research laboratories across the US. Generation of data and documentation of research performed for the preparation of published papers, as well as assistance on grant submissions and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance. Participate in regular communication with the PI and lab members via lab meetings and to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.

Compliance

Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Microbiology, Molecular Genetics and Immunology Department, understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols, and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings. Employee Type: Regular Time Type: Full time Rate Type: Hourly Compensation Statement: The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above. Pay Range: $21.06 - $27.40 Minimum $21.06 Midpoint $24.23 Maximum $27.40
