Therapies for preeclampsia have not advanced for over a century and only treat or prevent associated findings such as high blood pressure and seizures, not the underlying cause. Our laboratory is working to understand which cellular targets are candidates for treating preeclampsia. Our research involves cell culture and molecular biology techniques such as immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, Western blotting, and real-time PCR. The research technician will assist in performing laboratory research and procedures by executing routine experimental techniques under general supervision. The technician will collect, verify, record, and compile data to support research. Candidates should be enthusiastic, highly organized, self-motivated, reliable, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills, ability to multi-task, and capability to work independently and in teams are essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal Investigator by performing research procedures and operating scientific equipment.
  • Collect, record, organize, verify data, perform calculations, and prepare charts, graphs, and reports. Use software to assemble and format data and reports.
  • Configure and operate laboratory apparatus and instruments; record instrument data; maintain laboratory records.
  • Order chemicals, reagents, and supplies as needed.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions.
  • Maintain cell cultures for experiments.
  • Stay current with relevant literature in the research area.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Skills

Education: Bachelor of Science in a relevant field or equivalent experience. Experience: Some laboratory experience preferred. Skills and Abilities: Familiarity with laboratory principles and practices, ability to draft reports, maintain accurate records, learn new techniques, and perform a variety of tasks with general instruction.
