The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. seeks a Research Technician to support zebrafish tumor-model work at Huntsman Cancer Institute. The role includes microinjection of RNA and DNA into embryos, screening fish for tumor formation, and carrying out qPCR, Western analysis, and immunohistochemistry.
The successful candidate will gain training in molecular biology and genetic techniques, maintain zebrafish lines, prepare buffers, and assist senior lab members on daily experiments.
Primary responsibilities of this technical position will be microinjection of RNA and DNA into zebrafish embryos to assist in characterizing a tumor model of childhood central nervous system cancer. The candidate will screen fish for tumor formation, as well as perform molecular and biochemical assays (qPCR, Westernanalysis) and immunohistochemistry on tumor samples. Depending upon their qualifications, the candidate will be trained in several molecular biology and genetic techniques, including using bioinformatics to identify genes, cloning genes into expression vectors and preparing DNA and RNA probes. General laboratory responsibilities will include contributing to the maintenance of a zebrafish line, quality preparing materials for general molecular biology techniques (making buffers), and assisting senior lab members. Zebrafish experience is a plus, but not mandatory. Molecular biology experience preferred.
