Position Summary

We are seeking a per diem Research Technician to join the Brandes Lab at NYU School of Medicine. The role involves supporting research in applying advanced AI models in genomics, particularly protein language models to predict protein function and genetic mutation impacts. The technician will collaborate with Principal Investigators and work independently within the laboratory framework.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct genetic research using genomic large language models (LLMs) to analyze biological sequences and mutations.
• Analyze large-scale genetic datasets, including from biobanks and genetic cohorts.
• Analyze high-throughput experimental data, including single-cell sequencing.
• Collaborate with lab members and external partners to meet research goals.
• Contribute to research publications and grant proposals.

Additional Responsibilities

1. Incorporate variant effect prediction in statistical genetics to identify causality and improve genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and polygenic risk scores (PRS).
2. Identify genetic effects and optimize sequences, applying AI to differentiate mutation effects and integrating data for therapeutic insights.
3. Extend AI applications to non-coding regions, developing models to predict effects of non-coding variants in diseases.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences or related field with at least one year of experience. Advanced training may substitute experience if assessed by the Principal Investigator. Effective communication skills are required.

Qualified candidates must communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
