Stony Brook University is seeking a Research Support Specialist to assist in the Cancer Center. The role involves operating laboratory equipment, performing tests, and collecting and interpreting data under defined protocols.
The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Biology or Biochemistry, lab experience, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Research Support Specialist
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Biochemistry or closely related field. Experience working in a Research/Wet lab Laboratory environment. Experience operating scientific research equipment which can include but not limited to quantitative PCR and/or confocal microscopy. Experience carrying out physical, biochemical or biological based test procedures. Experience collecting, storing, analyzing and interpreting data.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology or Biochemistry or related field. Experience with rat/mouse animal handling.
Brief Description of Duties:
Within defined test or analytical protocols, operate equipment, carry out test procedures, as well as collate and interpret data using special methods in support of a research project or program for Dr. Bergan in the Stony Brook Cancer Center. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to details. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. The ideal candidate will have the ability to demonstrate professional competence in research activities.
Duties:
Perform laboratory maintenance to ensure a safe working environment in compliance with university regulations;
Conduct experiments, provide technical laboratory support and /or animal handling to assist with experiments conducted.
Perform literature search; staying current in the field by reading and discussing the literature and experimental results with the supervisor and/or PI.
Collect data, record observation measurements and prepare reports for review of supervisor and or PI.
Other duties or projects as assigned.
