Our lab uses cellular and mouse models of disease to identify therapeutic targets and develop cutting-edge gene therapy-based approaches to treat them, including AAV-mediated gene delivery, RNA interference, gene editing, and ASOs. We are seeking someone who can help design, conduct, and analyze experiments in immortalized cell lines, patient-derived stem cells, and mouse models of diseases of the nervous system in a highly collaborative, fun environment. The ideal candidate is comfortable with basic existing lab techniques and is also keen on reading published literature to identify the most effective, reliable, and novel strategies to advance the projects' success, and is not afraid to try new things and troubleshoot. Excellent organization and record-keeping skills are required. Prior experience with the following techniques is desired:
Prior experience with mouse handling and knowledge of or willingness to learn tissue extraction techniques (especially brain, spinal cord, and/or peripheral nerve) and behavior testing is preferred, as there is a significant in vivo component to our work.
Sectioning/immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence experience is a bonus, as is experience with imaging acquisition and analysis. For Research Specialist B applicants, duties will be more autonomous with a greater level of independence. Further, although both positions are expected to lead to inclusion in publications from the lab, a Research Specialist B will also be expected to assist in generating figures, writing Methods, and other aspects of manuscript preparation.
