Job Summary

Research Specialist in Cardiometabolic Arrhythmia Mechanisms – The laboratory of Dr. Ademuyiwa Aromolaran, Ph.D. at the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute (CVRTI), University of Utah. The lab focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of cardiac ion channel functional regulation in disease states, particularly metabolic disorders (obesity, diabetes, inflammation) and arrhythmias.

Responsibilities

Set up and conduct experiments according to established research protocols under the direction of scientists. Perform a variety of tasks supporting research projects: prepare samples for analysis, perform laboratory tasks, collect and analyze data, validate and document results, and summarize findings to inform decisions. Assist in preparing research documentation, including grants, regulatory submissions, manuscripts, reports, and presentations. Maintain knowledge of research methods, techniques, and developments in the field.

Qualifications: bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of directly related experience or master’s degree plus 2 years. Developing‑level position, moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.

Research Specialist, III

Job Code: P56433, Grade: P15, Expected Pay Range: $36,196 to $83,036.

Qualifications: bachelor’s degree plus 6 years of directly related experience or master’s degree plus 4 years. Career‑level position with minimal supervision and wide latitude for independent judgment.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalency: 1 year of higher education can substitute for 1 year of directly related work experience. (e.g., bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Preferences

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related discipline.
• Training: Proficiency in molecular biology techniques including protein complex immunoprecipitation, Western blot, immunofluorescent labeling, RNA isolation, PCR optimization, Real‑Time PCR, DNA isolation, electrophoresis, DNA cloning, and plasmid development; cell culture and transfection; human tissue collection with patient consent; small animal handling (mice, rats, guinea pigs) and minor procedures; laboratory equipment purchasing and maintenance.
• Experience: At least two years of practical laboratory experience is desired.
