Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking a Research Software Engineer, AI/ML to build and support software enabling AI and machine learning for researchers. This hands-on role tackles diverse challenges across AI services and will progressively own the LLM infrastructure.

You will work with faculty, Computational Scientists, and the ARC team, and lead workshops to help users leverage AI effectively in research. This hybrid-eligible position emphasizes on-site work with some remote flexibility.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent in a related field or combination of education and experience.
• Proficient in Linux shell, scripting, package management, and system troubleshooting.
• Experience developing and maintaining software and/or web services.
• Experience with containerization technologies for deploying scalable workloads.

Responsibilities

• Build and support AI/ML software and services for researchers.
• Progressively own the LLM infrastructure and related tooling.
• Lead workshops and training to broaden AI tool usage across teams.
