Job summary

The Morgridge Institute for Research invites applications for a Research Software Engineer to advance modern software engineering within long-running research collaborations. The role sits at the nexus of research, large-scale computing, and national cyberinfrastructure projects, focusing on the Pelican Platform for data delivery across the US.

You will work with Morgridge Research Computing and UW‑Madison's CHTC, contributing to high-throughput computing initiatives and mentoring interns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or biological sciences; Master’s degree preferred.
• 1+ years of software engineering experience in a research environment; 3+ years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interact with scientific group leaders to scope and architect a program of work and implement it.
• Develop distributed systems code to improve robustness and add features (Go, C++, Python).
• Assist operations in debugging distributed systems and deployments.
• As aligned with experience, lead student software engineering interns on semester-long projects.
• Provide assistance with other projects to support Morgridge’s mission.
