The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora seeks a Research Services Senior Professional to manage a NIH RF1 project in the Dabertrand Laboratory. You will conduct and assist with experiments (qRT-PCR, western blotting, cell culture, imaging) and coordinate lab operations in a collaborative, neuroscience and cardiovascular focused environment.

You will mentor students and staff, prepare samples, maintain instruments, analyze data, and help with manuscripts and NIH reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field and two years of professional experience.
• A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
• Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field (preferred).

• Experience with Data Science.

Job Summary:

The Dabertrand Laboratory in the Department of Anesthesiology investigates the control of cerebral blood flow by ion channels and calcium signals in the pericytes, endothelial cells, and smooth muscle cells that constitute the intracerebral microcirculation. We focus on the interaction between neural activity and the microvasculature in different brain regions, in physiological and small vessels disease conditions.

We are seeking an experienced PRA who will perform lab management and conduct/assist with experiments. Experiments include, but not limited to qRT-PCR, western blotting, mammalian cell culture and cell line maintenance, DNA/RNA extraction, electrophoresis, ELISA, proliferation and migration assays, Ca2+imaging, isolated and pressurized arterioles from mouse brain, patch-clamp electrophysiology on isolated cells, in vivo two-photon microscopy. Responsibilities include solutions and samples preparation, operation and general maintenance of instruments, as well as data collection and analysis. It is an opportunity to learn cutting‑edge technologies and to work with investigators on high orbit projects.

The candidate should have experience in neuroscience, cardiovascular science or related fields; experience with mouse handling is required, and having microsurgery level/fine motor skills is a plus. The successful candidate should have experience in at least one of these area: molecular biology (RNA extraction, qPCR…), electrophysiology (Patch-clap, EPSP recording), and fluorescence imaging (confocal, two‑photon…). This position will work in a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
• Coordinate research activities and communicate results across the Dabertrand and Garcia laboratories.
• Independently design, execute, troubleshoot, and analyze experiments supporting a collaborative NIH RF1 project.
• Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects
• Develop and optimize experimental workflows across molecular, cellular, imaging, electrophysiological, and omics approaches.
• Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research
• Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results
• Perform pre‑analytical, analytical and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced
• Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas
• Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary
• Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials and other items as needed
• Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions
• Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information
• Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit and related issues
• Mentor graduate students, research professionals, and new laboratory personnel in experimental techniques and scientific best practices.
• Contribute to manuscript preparation, figure development, and NIH progress reports.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with institutional and NIH research standards.
• Assist in the review and implement lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs
• Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receive guidance and direction or elevate when required

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $56,249 to $75,373.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
