Under moderate supervision, you will review practices, conduct audits, and assist in developing programs for privacy awareness and regulatory compliance for faculty, staff, and students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
  • Equivalency: 1 year of higher education can substitute 1 year of related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Data Privacy Screening & Workflow Monitoring: supports Restricted Party Screenings and BRR data process improvements in Tableau.
  • Incident Investigation & System Disclosures: manages data policy variances and data inquiries via university systems (BRR, ERICA).
  • Inter-Departmental Consultations & Process Streamlining: coordinates privacy consultations with OGh and OGE; streamlines workflows to ERICA.
  • Institutional Regulatory Reporting: compiles and validates sensitive information for foreign contributions and security metrics; coordinates access and reporting timelines.
  • Privacy Training & Educational Development: supports development of privacy education materials and awareness programs.

Job description

Research Security Analyst

The Privacy / Data Protection Analyst II monitors, analyzes, andreports on university compliance with internal policies,institutional business practices, and external governmentregulations regarding personal data, data privacy laws, andresearch security. This role provides operational support to ensurethe university's compliance with applicable laws regulatingresearch security (e.g., foreign business relationships, foreigntravel, and data security). Working under moderate supervision withlatitude for independent judgment, the Analyst reviews universitybusiness practices, conducts data privacy audits, identifies areasof non-compliance, and assists in creating and implementing dataprotection plans to safeguard sensitive university assets andintellectual property.

Responsibilities
  • Data Privacy Screening & Workflow Monitoring:Providesoperational assistance with Restricted Party Screenings (RPS) anddynamic screening alerts through Visual Compliance to protectinstitutional data integrity.Reviews disclosures made through theUniversity's Business Relationship Reporting (BRR) system toidentify data privacy risks and collaborates with the Office ofResearch Information Systems (ORIS) on BRR data process improvementand metric tracking in Tableau.
  • IncidentInvestigation & System Disclosures: Manages theidentification, submission, and resolution of data policy variancesor non-compliance issues within BRR, ERICA, or associateddisclosure systems. Managesthe research security email account toaddress data inquiries and validates or rejects potential dataprivacy alerts routed from partnering entities (including OSP, TLO,OGC, and ARUP).
  • Inter-Departmental Consultations & ProcessStreamlining:Coordinates data privacy and foreign influenceconsultations received from the Office of Global Health (OGH) andthe Office of Global Engagement (OGE).Streamlines restricted partyscreening workflows and assists in securely transitioning internaloffices to submission platforms within the university's ElectronicResearch Integrity and Compliance Application (ERICA).
  • InstitutionalRegulatory Reporting: Compiles, validates, andmanages sensitive information to ensure timely and accurateinstitutional reporting of foreign contributions and researchsecurity metrics (e.g.,Section 117, NSF FFDR). Works withUniversity Advancement and OSP to maintain required portal access,execute scheduled reporting timelines, and process data correctionsor back-reporting, as necessary.
  • PrivacyTraining & Educational Development: Supports thedevelopment and implementation of educational programs, guidelines,and training materials in conjunction with the Office of ResearchEducation (REd).Promotes robust data privacy awareness, dataminimization, and regulatory compliance regarding foreign influenceand export control programs for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Scopeof Work: Evaluates future operating systems forinstitutional research to ensure alignment with data protection andprivacy needs. Conducts work assignments of increasing complexityutilizing a moderate skill set, with defined latitude forindependent judgmentunder moderate supervision. Identifies andparticipates in relevant professional developmentopportunities.

Preferences

Leveraged open-source intelligence (OSINT) and specialized datatools to evaluate foreign affiliations, unstated financial ties,and malign foreign talent recruitment program participation,directly supporting institutional compliance with NSPM-33disclosure and conflict-of-commitment requirements.
