Waymo is seeking a hybrid-role AI researcher to advance world models and large generative systems for autonomous driving. You will contribute to cutting-edge research, design rigorous experiments, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to push the boundaries of machine learning in real-world mobility challenges.

The role requires advanced degrees in deep learning, strong practical experience with modern frameworks, and a track record in training large foundational models, including

Qualifications

• Masters or PhD in deep learning focusing on generative or world modeling.
• 3+ years of experience with modern deep learning frameworks (e.g., JAX, TensorFlow 2, PyTorch).
• Experience with diffusion / flow matching models.
• Experience with reinforcement learning.
• Experience training large foundational models.

Responsibilities

• Conduct applied world model research and development.
• Post-train Waymo's world model.
• Design experiments by training and evaluating large generative models.
• Present results to peers and leadership.
• Leverage AI to write high quality code, unit tests, and documentation, and automate workflows.
