Work environment: Remote

Expected pay amount: 50.00 USD Per Hour

Schedule: 20 hours per week average; ideally 4 hours per day between 9:00am-5:00pm CST weekdays; flexibility to accommodate evening and weekend hours (CST)

HireArt is helping our client hire Research Scientists - Nuclear and Radiological to join their mission of shaping the future of AI in experimental R&D. This is a remote and flexible part-time opportunity.

We're looking for individuals who are passionate about leveraging their expertise in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive (CBRNE) threat identification and mitigation to play a pivotal role in contributing to the safety/security of next-generation AI models related to CBRNE threats.

As a Research Scientist - Nuclear and Radiological, you will:
  • Establish evaluation criteria to measure risk and inform policy makers.
  • Evaluate responses generated by AI systems based on safety/risk measures to ensure highest quality.
  • Develop large-scale benchmark projects in AI.
  • Use your domain expertise to assess the factuality and relevance of text produced by AI models.
  • Synthesize outputs to establish risk thresholds for AI capabilities.
  • Conduct evaluations and provide insights to improve LLM safety frameworks to reduce safety vulnerabilities.
  • Communicate findings with cross-functional partners to advance safety mission and policy.
Requirements
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in physics, nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, or similar
  • Experience in experimental R&D or teaching relevant subjects at the college level
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency and high quality in writing and spotting errors/inconsistencies
  • Motivated by AI quality challenges, excited about the potential of AI, and understands the implications of AI development
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Military or college-level teaching experience
Commitment:This is a part-time, 6-week contract position (with the possibility to extend) staffed via HireArt. It is remote and available to candidates based in the U.S., excluding California.
